     Personality

Nessarose is a gentle and sweet girl on the outside, and deep down inside...she is just as gentle and sweet. She likes to take things at face value as much as possible, and will rarely conceal her feelings about a certain situation. While she will keep secrets if asked to, she always tries to encourage that said secrets be shared. However, as she greatly dislikes conflict, she will usually let it go if she feels things are escalating in a violent direction.

Similarly, while she is quite good at reading all of someone's emotions, and can often tell if someone is upset, at the same time she usually shies away from comforting them. Most of the time she'll wait until they've gotten out of the funk before presenting them with something simple and sweet, or perhaps some piece of clothing tailored to them. She knows quite a few recipes for drinks, which is her main method of comforting people. However, when others are in a good mood, she is likely to try and reach out to them, since she enjoys befriending others.

In the rare cases when Nessa does get angry, it's usually combined with sorrow or disappointment of some sort. She rarely shows pure anger, even when confronted with something she hates, since most of those things she hates are based on painful memories. Even when she does get angry, the anger usually dissipates first. She's also bad at holding grudges, except for the one she has directed at the Raticate line in general. Her brother has joked that she's saved all her "grudge energy" for that one hatred, and everything else can dissolve easily.

     Background

Nessa's family were all war refugees, fleeing from a war-razed country to find another to call home. Her grandparents on her mother's side and her grandfather on her mom's side all died in the war or during the escape, and her surviving uncle was left with only one leg. Only her mothers really made it out unscathed, mainly because they were sent away long before the war began in earnest. Even so, both of them were left with some emotional scars from that. While her moms tried not to tell Nessa about those stories, she begged them out of her uncle and grandmother. It was then that she learned that genetically altered Pokemon had been used in that war, and it had been one of them that sank the boat her grandfather on her mom's side was on, as well as taken off her uncle's leg. This started a combined fear and hate of such Pokemon, although she never told anyone about it.

Nessa's moms had started up their own theater company after settling in, and were married after it and they had been going steady for a while. Both Nessa and her older brother were raised in the theater, learning how to run it as well as how to perform on stage. Nessa loved all of it, while her older brother eventually went for more traditional education. He would sometimes take time to teach what he was learning to his younger sister, fearing that their parents weren't providing all the education she could get. She took in what she could, but never really liked it, even when he told her that it was something she would have to learn if she was going to inherit the caretaking of the theater. She just grinned and said that she would leave that up to him. And truly enough, after he finished his schooling, he came back to continue helping with the theater. It seemed like the sibling pair would indeed inherit the theater.

However, all these plans she had been making changed when she overheard her mothers talking about expanding a branch of their theater overseas. However, they couldn't decide which of their employees to put in charge of it. Nessa revealed herself, and declared that she would do it. Anthony, however, feared for what could hapen, and said that he wouldn't leave, hoping to make her change her mind. She simply said that she would find someone else to help with that. Her mothers said that if she could find someone to do that part for her, as well as a form of transport, they would let her go. None of the theater employees were willing to accept the job, so she traveled down to the docks in hope of killing two birds with one stone. It was there that she met Columba and Celandine, and learned of their plans. Upon learning that both of them were much more capable at calculations than her, she told them of her own plans. After some consideration, Celandine agreed to let her aboard, on the condition that she design a symbol for their kingdom.

Nessa's mothers and brother were naturally shocked upon learning that she had actually found someone to help her with the management. They demanded to meet these two people, and after a bit of discussion, decided the two were trustworthy. With reluctance, they handed over a bunch of sewing supplies and information about establishing a branch of Shooting Star Studios, and let her go on.

     Personality

Cassius is very quiet and reserved about most things, especially his own feelings. He mostly expresses himself to Pokemon he's trying to train, and even then only to express what he wants out of them. He is quick to express frustration with things not going his way, whether because of others, his own fault, or simply accidents. However, he is also quick to apologize for those outbursts, despite his tone of voice in those cases mostly being very curt and snippish. Most of the time, it's simply because he doesn't want bad blood between himself and his companions.

He's very scared about verbally expressing care for people, no matter what his actual feelings are. However, he does express it in a smaller way, constantly checking on the people he cares about to make sure they're still there. Currently, that's pretty much just his new companions, who he has found himself caring about simply due to the fact that they keep trying to get through to him.

Cassius has quite a few subjects that bring up painful memories for him, but he also dislikes mentioning that they make him uncomfortable. He doesn't want to share any more about his past than necessary, so most of the time when those subjects come up, he'll simply end up making himself scarce, and most of the time won't be found for a long time. Most of the time, he will end up organizing his gem collection while waiting for everyone else to stop talking.

Cassius does actually miss his parents and homeland a lot, but he's chosen to try and bury those memories. However, at times, he can still find himself staring at his Ranger outfit or the box that holds his gem collection, and can't help but reminisce a bit.

     Background

Cassius is the son of Vern Craine, a high-ranking Pokemon Ranger, and Nira Craine, maiden name Tyr, a spelunker. The two of them met while Vern was on a ranger mission, investigating a disturbance in a certain cave system. When he got there, he found that Nira had bumped into the poacher the Rangers were looking for, and was beating him up with her walking stick, an Absol snapping at the man's heels. Vern stepped in to arrest the man, and Nira thanked him a bit grudgingly before collapsing, her Absol crying out in worry and pawing at her side.

Vern handed the poacher over to some other local authorities before taking Nira to the hospital. It turned out that the hospital was fairly familiar with her, since the young woman had been sickly from birth. When she awoke, she once again reluctantly thanked him for helping her out. The two of them ended up talking for a while, and he told her about his ranger job. She told him that she had been hiking and searching for gems ever since her youth, and that she was also searching for a sign from the legendary Terrakion, who she had seen once in a dream. For her, that belief was what sustained her in her long journeys. Usually, Aria the Absol would watch out for her and warn her if she was about to collapse, but upon finding the poacher, Nira had been enraged enough to go at him without any care for her own safety.

Vern offered Nira an opportunity to join the rangers and become an official patrol assistant, but she refused, saying that she preferred having the freedom to explore her beloved caves and mountains as she wished. However, after that, the two of them started meeting up more often, including outside of Vern's normal patrol times. Finally, some of Vern's Ranger compatriots started teasing him about his "dates," and that made him realize that he had fallen for Nira. And on their next date, he expressed those feelings, which Nira realized she returned. The two of them continued their dates, and eventually ended up married.

Cassius was their only child, as it turned out to be a very difficult birth for Nira. Although his parents were often away, they lavished much attention on him as he grew, and he longed to be like them when he grew older. He grew up on stories of his father's adventures as a Ranger and his mother's explorations into the mountains, and her stories about Terrakion. His father even promised him to get him into the Ranger School once he was old enough. So he did his best to learn about the wilderness and surviving in it, hoping to have a head start once he got in.

He did get in, but while he was still a student there, his mother fell ill once more, this time a much more severe attack than previously that left her permanently in the hospital. She repeatedly told Cassius not to worry, to focus on his studies, and he tried to keep doing that for as long as he could. However, his father then took leave form his Ranger duties in order to take care of her, and Cassius' own concern took over, making it much harder for him to focus on his studies.

Finally, he took his own leave to visit his mother in the hospital. She was too tired to even pretend to be upset, and expressed happiness that he had come to see her. He couldn't believe how weak she looked now, and he stayed for as long as he could. Before he left, he told both her and his father, who had come to visit, that he loved them.

The next day, he learned that his mother had had a burst of energy and left the hospital, taking only her Pokemon with her. According to his father, she had gone in search of Terrakion one last time, saying that she would find either death or a healing at the end of it. A few days after that, his father also disappeared with his Pokemon, saying that he wanted to find her if she was out there. Neither of them returned. Cassius tried to go on, but now everything about his homeland held nothing but painful memories. Finally, he set off for the docks, hoping to find a ship to take him far away from his homeland. That was where he first encountered Celandine, Cassius, and Nessarose.

     Story Information

Archetypes: The Practical One
Tropes and Clichés: TBD
Role: The Advisor

     Personality

Columba is a rather serious young man, who usually has a thoughtful expression on his face. He is often the first to consider the possible dangers of a certain course of action, although he is also used to others dismissing those concerns. However, he is also the first to celebrate each step of success in a plan, no matter how minor. He does also have a fondness for dirty jokes, and can sometimes be seen with a smirk that means he's thinking of one such joke.

Columba takes his duties seriously as well, no matter how much he dislikes them. His talent with accounting means that he's been pressed into helping Celandine manage the finances of her new kingdom. While he works hard at what he's been told to do, he generally won't seek out extra work. On the other hand, he does find caring for Pokemon eggs and young Pokemon soothing, and performs those duties more throughly, sometimes using them as an excuse to avoid dealing with finances.

Columba opens up to people rather easily. While he won't immediately trust anyone he's just met, it doesn't take much to become considered a friend of his. He's especially fond of children, especially those who remind him of his younger sister.

Columba also has an appreciation for the finer things in life, given to him by his dad. He loves the feeling of silk and other smooth cloth against his skin, and while he will happily wear hardier clothes to handle farmwork, most of his night clothes are of the expensive and luxurious kind. And of course, he highly enjoys several types of fine cuisine, and is somewhat upset that he'll lose the chance to experience those foods after traveling so far away from home.

     Background

While it can be agreed that Columba's parents are from different social classes, where that difference lies is what the main question is. From his mother's side, the Palmer family, while not noble or rich, was capable of sustaining their own breeding ranch for many generations, and their name was well-known enough that the name "Palmer" was a good enough guarantee of a Pokemon's lineage. On his father's side, the Briggs family was rich, but had come into that money fairly recently. Even so, it was enough that it was expected that Noah would marry into another rich, and possibly noble family to elevate the Briggs family status. Letitia and Noah met when she came to deliver a Palmer Rufflet that the heir had ordered, and after several arguments, a few civil discussions, and one spontaneous cross-country trip, the two of them fell in love and ended up married.

Columba was the second-youngest of his family, and constantly felt torn between his father and mother's worlds, as they each continued working in their own family's footsteps. While Columba seemed to be more drawn towards being a breeder and raising Pokemon as his mother did, he also had both a talent and an interest in the Briggs business. As he got older, it seemed like both his older siblings had both chosen one of those paths. Then his childhood friend Celandine, who he had met while helping his mom with a delivery to the Erkens home, informed him that she planned on traveling to Reign to achieve her own noble status on her own terms. While he immediately informed her about the many possible dangers that she would encounter, at the same time the idea of accomplishing something under his own name, without the shadow of either parent, was fascinating to him. Finally, he told her that he would not let her go alone, and that he would join her.

It also took some convincing to get his parents to agree to letting him go, although not as much as Celandine's. They also gave him a collection of eggs, although they told him that those eggs would probably take longer to hatch than the ones Celandine had. This didn't bother him that much, since it would be a good test of his egg caretaking abilities.
